Q: Can I tow and recover at once with it?
A: No — you’ll do one or the other. Tow off the ball, recover off the shackle. The benefit is that both stay on the truck, so there’s nothing to swap when you need the other.
Q: Can I change the 2" ball to another size?
A: Yes — the ball is held by a big hex nut and spring washer underneath, so it’s fully replaceable. Break it loose with a large wrench, thread in a 1-7/8" or 2-5/16" ball, and torque it back down — more flexible than a permanently welded ball.
Q: Is the shackle for towing or just recovery?
A: Recovery only. The shackle isn’t a ball — never clip a trailer coupler to it. Use the 2" ball on the opposite side for any towing.
Q: What if I want a dedicated ball mount or a heavier recovery receiver?
A: For towing only, the 6,000 lbs ball mount is the simple choice. For extreme pulls, the 70,000 lbs D-ring receiver steps up recovery strength.
